When you close the grips, they function as the handle of your winder. When you open them, they function as the handles of a wire cutter. 	In our opinion...Both of these products are excellent. The Planet Waves clipper function works better than the Li'l Nipper clipper, but the Li'l Nipper winder function works better than  the Planet Waves winder. Overall, the Li'l Nipper is better built.
